Write about a few of your favorite family traditions.
One of the simplest yet most meaningful rhythms in our family life is gathering around the dinner table. We laugh, share our highs and lows, and enjoy the blessing of a meal together. Over time, we’ve added a few intentional traditions that make our evenings even more special.
After dinner, everyone pitches in for a quick 10-minute cleaning session. It’s amazing what we can accomplish together in such a short amount of time! But our favorite addition has been what we now call “10-10-10” — a creative after-dinner family activity that keeps our hands and imaginations busy.
Recently, we decided to dedicate 10 days to drawing 10-minute self-portraits. Each evening, we gathered our pencils and paper, set the timer, and dove into capturing ourselves as we saw fit. It didn’t matter if our drawings were realistic or abstract; the focus was on the process, not the result. To our delight, this activity brought a lot of laughter, creativity, and even insight into each other’s perspectives.
The self-portraits were such a success that we’ve now moved on to another “10-10-10” series: mini watercolor landscapes! For 10 days, we’ll spend 10 minutes painting small scenes inspired by nature. The beauty of this tradition is that it’s simple, fun, and a perfect reminder of our creative potential.
We believe we’re created by a Creator to create. This tradition isn’t about achieving perfection but about nurturing a spirit of creativity within our family. It’s a time to connect, experiment, and celebrate the unique ways each of us sees the world.
What are your family traditions? Have you tried incorporating creativity into your everyday life? Eager to see what you do!
